The Tenets of Taekwondo

A tenet is an opinion, principle or doctrine which a person holds or maintains as true.

The Taekwondo Tenets Are:

  1. Courtesy
  2. Integrity
  3. Perseverance
  4. Self-Control
  5. Indomitable Spirit

Outline of the Tenets

  1. Courtesy
    1. Honor, Respect, and Loyalty
      1. Loyalty to country
      2. Fidelity to parents
      3. Marital fidelity
      4. Brotherhood
      5. Friendship
      6. Respect for elders
      7. Respect for teachers
      8. Avoid killing living things
  2. Integrity
    1. Honor, Respect, and Loyalty within yourself
      1. To know the truth
      2. To demonstrate humbleness
      3. To show true honesty from the heart
      4. To maintain a clear and clean conscience
      5. To know what is right from wrong
      6. To practice humanity with ultimate morality
      7. To live by a code of moral ethics
  3. Perseverance
    1. Patience, Determination, and Persistence
      1. To always finish what you have started
        1. responsibility and freedom makes a man
      2. To understand your limits and learn to conquer those limitations within the realm of reality
  4. Self Control
    1. Patience, Dignity, Discipline, Balance, and Will
      1. To develop the ability to overcome one's anger
      2. To be able to control one's own conscience and the sub-conscience
      3. To be able to understand oneself
  5. Indomitable Spirit
    1. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, and Self-Control
      1. To maintain a strong inner strength which is the key to valor that makes Man brave
      2. Having the courage to do what is right
